Students will learn the basic combat techniques used in the battle, including the use of spears. They’ll be equipped with child-friendly spears and shields, practicing the commands and movements required for battle formations.

The workshop leader will introduce a variety of historical weapons, including crossbows, swords, axes, and shields. Students will discover how each weapon was used and why it was essential for battle.
Games and Recreation of the Normans and Anglo-Saxons:
The children will explore the leisure activities of both the Normans and Anglo-Saxons, including playing replica board games from the era, offering a fun glimpse into their daily lives.
Handling 1066 Weapons:
Students will have the opportunity to handle replica weapons from 1066, gaining a tactile understanding of the era’s armament. This session’s length depends on the number of participating classes and the day's schedule.
Planning the Norman Invasion:
The children will work together to strategize a Norman invasion, considering practical aspects like finances, resources, and manpower needed to prepare for a successful campaign.
The Legacy of Hastings
The day concludes with a session on the lasting impact of the Battle of Hastings, exploring how the battle shaped the future of England and its people.
