The Plague of London Workshop
Morning Introduction: The Plague Doctor, donned in his iconic beak-shaped mask, will explain the events of The Great Plague of London, including its origins, the outbreak, and the aftermath.
The Great Plague of London Role-Play: Students engage in an interactive decision-making activity, working together to solve life-and-death challenges based on actual historical events and primary-source material.
The Black Death in 3D: Children will visually witness how The Black Death spread across Europe, from fleas to rats to humans. They'll explore the horrific symptoms and understand how mortality rates varied across the continent.
Stop the Spread!: The Plague Doctor will guide the children on ways to prevent the spread of The Black Death. Students will analyze various artefacts and guess if the treatments were effective, comparing their guesses to primary-source accounts of the time.

The Fire of London Workshop
Afternoon Introduction: The workshop leader will portray Thomas Farriner, the famous baker linked to the start of The Great Fire of London. Students will hear his side of the story and discuss whether he truly sparked the catastrophic blaze. They'll also explore what happened to the plague during the fire.
Artefact Handling and Investigation: Students will have the chance to examine a collection of historical replicas and understand their uses. There's also an opportunity for children to dress up in period costumes.
The Great Fire of London Role-Play: In this interactive session, students will strategize on how to minimize the damage caused by The Great Fire of London. Using maps, 3D models, and accurate period information, they will make decisions based on real historical events.
