Inspiring Art Workshops for Schools

Cartooning, comics, clay, anime, space art, sketchbooks and more

Why is Go Sketch different? Hi there, my name is Emma and I set up Go Sketch in 2011 to bring my love of art and my teacher training together to create inspiring art workshops for all. Why is Go Sketch different? We don't teach step by step for final pieces (this often knocks confidence and is not how an artist works). Instead we teach the skills and then let the pupils explore their own ideas in a safe environment without fear of judgement. We help pupils increase their confidence by constantly demonstrating that creating something you don't like is an essential stepping stone in the creative process.

Space Art

This workshop is a great way to link art to a space topic. We have many workshops using the topic of space as it is often a topic I use in my own art. We can create galaxy pictures, surreal art on the moon, focus on astronauts or rockets. We can tailor make the session to suit your school.

Zendoodle Art Workshops for Wellbeing

This is a great art workshop for schools who would like a calming, mindful activity. Great for world mental health day. Explore the beautiful art of many artists who use the Zendoodle technique. The Zendoodle technique involves creating intricate patterns with shapes to build an entire form. The method has proved to be very popular in recent years as it is very relaxing and great for the mind.

Air-dry Clay Sculpture Workshops

We can plan and deliver quality clay workshops that show progression of skills across the school. The clay we use is air-dry clay so there is no need for a kiln. The sculptures can then be painted after the workshop.

Testimonials

"Our boys were raving about their comic strip workshops. They were so inspired and have been asking about you all week. Your sessions were well led, age- appropriate and highly enticing for the boys! The materials were varied, different to what we usually use and great for young children. You were flexible- which is amazing as well as very organised. The teachers and were thrilled with the experiences you gave the boys. Thank you again, I will definitely be recommending and using Go Sketch again in the future!"

Jenna Webb, Wimbledon Common Preparatory School

"Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the GO SKETCH workshops. We didn't want the sessions to end. The children were mesmerised by Emma. You could definitely tell she used to be a teacher as she had great classroom management and the activity was pitched perfectly for the age and interest of the children. I loved the wide selection of high quality resources Emma brought with her for us to use. Emma was very dedicated and spent a lot of time preparing for each session. Thank you so much for traveling from Bristol to see us. Definitely would recommend GO SKETCH to other teachers for future art weeks."

Laura Makepeace, Woodville Juniors, Derbyshire

"Emma has been to our school to run workshops during our art week for the past 3 years. The workshops are well run and the children thoroughly enjoy them. The workshops allow the children to be creative and develop their art skills. Thank you Emma for helping to make our arts week special."

Gemma Smith, St Stephen's Infant School, Bristol

"We had the absolute pleasure of working with Emma, who truly went above and beyond. She was fantastic with the children—kind, patient, and genuinely engaging throughout the session. Her ability to connect with each child and bring out their creativity was remarkable. The atmosphere she created was warm, supportive, and full of inspiration. The children not only learned new skills but left feeling proud and excited about their artwork. She was well-prepped with resources and incredibly punctual. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience—she was absolutely amazing! Would highly recommend!"

Lily Claridge, Assistant Head- Primary Heathermount School

"I just wanted to say a very bag thank you for delivering a wonderful assembly and workshops on Friday. The children thoroughly enjoyed the art and this was evident in the wonderful work showcased within their sketchpads. Your attention to detail and fantastic delivery, all surrounding our botanical theme, was truly valued and I would most definitely recommend your workshops to other schools! Thanks you once again 🙂"

Joti Bhogal, Botwell House Catholic Primary School

"Thank you for visiting us on Monday - the children really enjoyed the comic workshop and loved making their own characters to go in their comic strip. The resources you prepared were fantastic and the children were really enthused about the activities and the different ways to create a character. I know for us as teachers, providing us with the insight of the structure of a comic strip and how to simply but effectively plan one was great. I also know lot's of our pupils liked the idea of silent comics - which we hadn't thought of as of yet!"

Jo Fabian, Ysgol Gynradd Herbert Thompson School

"We were very excited to have Emma in as part of our cultural study on Japan and imparticular Manga Art. Emma was fantastic a explain the history and culture behind the skills. Her presence with the kids was great and really highlighted our growth mindset approach. We would definetly ask Emma to come back. Thank you so much."

Sarah Buettner, Bugbrooke Community Primary School

"Our Year 2's had a fantastic time on the clay workshop with Emma. They initially gained an understanding of where clay comes from and then had fun developing their own texture tiles and pinch pots. It was wonderful to have Emma to lead the session;staff thought it was great and the children loved it!"

About This Provider (Go Sketch)
drawing, painting, clay workshops for schools
Head Office: Go Sketch, Home, TA2

Hi there! My name is Emma Shannon and I have loved art from a very young age. I qualified as a primary teacher in 2006 and soon discovered that, due to timetable restraints, there was not enough time dedicated to the arts at school. As an artist and a teacher, it was the logical choice to bring my two passions together to create Go Sketch. I believe in teaching children that there is no such thing as 'good art' and 'bad art', only art we like and don't like. Everyone likes different art. We celebrate 'mistakes' as 'opportunities' within the creative process. What makes Go Sketch different: We do not teach step by step. Instead we teach skills and then allow children to think like an artist and build confidence through trying out their own ideas (and learning that drawing something they don't like is just a part of the process). Go Sketch Club aims to develop young artists into self confident, imaginative and creative thinking adults of tomorrow.
