Summary
Our Anglo-Saxon workshop offers students a chance to explore history by handling real weapons, equipment, and artefacts. They'll also take part in activities like a Witan meeting, with the highlight being a session on battle formations and tactics.
We provide a full day of activities for up to three classes, ensuring an immersive experience. The workshop starts with an introduction from an Anglo-Saxon warrior, who will explain the use of weapons, shields, helmets, and armour. The rest of the day is filled with interactive sessions that bring the history to life.

Workshop Activities
The workshop includes various engaging activities:
- Battle Formations and Tactics: Students will learn how to fight like Anglo-Saxon warriors, using their own spear and round shield.
- Anglo-Saxon Board Games: The children will play popular games of the time, like 9 Men’s Morris and Tafl.
- Archaeology: The children will sift through sand trays to uncover real artefacts, some dating back to Roman times.
- The Witan: Students will participate in a simulated Witan, an Anglo-Saxon meeting where they make important decisions affecting society. Their choices will impact the three classes of Anglo-Saxon society.
- Anglo-Saxon Artefact Investigation: The workshop leader will showcase a variety of replica artefacts, demonstrating how they were used for daily tasks like making fire, crafting clothing, and preparing food. Students might also get the chance to dress up as young Anglo-Saxons!
Depending on the schedule and number of classes, there may also be additional talks and presentations on Anglo-Saxon life.
