Cave Painting Sessions
These sessions will be guided by an artist and utilises art to convey the spiritual and mystical essence of nature with the use of paint blowing, stick brushes, and charcoal. The images children will create hold significance, representing shamanistic experiences, stories, instructions, and incantations for prosperity.
The workshop is divided in to two parts:
First, students will learn about the history of cave drawing through an artist's presentation showcasing examples and visuals of various cave paintings, drawings, and sculptures throughout different eras. Then, they will create a cave drawing montage using brown sugar paper, charcoal, and chalk to create a series of iconic imagery such as the sun, bison, people, horses, deer, and hand patterns.
In the second part, students will crumple their drawings to make them look old and torn, then affix them under their desks to create their own "caves." They will switch places with other groups to draw nature scenes on the "cave roofs", while listening to nature sounds. This sensory experience engages students and challenges them to draw on the "walls."
