Fossils and Evolution School Workshops

An interactive workshop with hands on exploration

Handle real Jurassic fossils and find out how they are related to living animals. Discover how fossils can show us species have changed over time.

Age Groups

Y5 - Y6, Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Classroom Workshop (1 hour)

This workshop provides pupils with a hands on introduction to Jurassic fossils found in the UK, and how they provide evidence for species adaptation and evolution.

Pupils will discover:

  • How fossils are formed, and the part sedimentary rock plays in this process
  • How living and extinct animals are classified based on their characteristics
  • How the fossil record shows us that animals have changed over time

Pupils will handle real fossils found on the Jurassic coast, take part in demonstrations, and discuss how we may classify a selection of living and extinct species.
