Tower Tussle Engineering Workshop for Schools

An engineering challenge to build the tallest possible earthquake and hurricane proof tower!

In this competitive challenge, young people begin by learning about different building types and how buildings can adapt to different environments. Alongside this, students are also introduced to engineering principles used in building design, from strong shapes to earthquake-proof design. They are then challenged to work in teams to construct the tallest possible tower using craft materials, while also conforming to a strict budget and timescale. At the end of the allotted time, the towers are tested against an earthquake board and/or hurricane speed winds, and the tallest tower that withstands the elements is declared the winner! This workshop is unique that it can be adapted to almost any age group, from the youngest Key Stage 1 pupils right up to post-16, without feeling too simple or too challenging. Younger pupils focus on building towers with strong shapes, while older pupils incorporate building adaptions and engineering principles to ensure success within their budget.

Cost

For a member of staff delivering a full day of workshops, prices start from £650+VAT for schools within a roughly 1.5 hour drive of Derby.

Our quotes are fully inclusive with no requirement for you to provide any materials, and no additional fees are added to the quoted prices. If you require a larger group of young people to be engaged with activities, we can also provide multiple staff members. Discounts are available for multiple bookings, and if you have a specified budget, we are happy to put together a plan that aligns with this.
