Sling Rockets School Club Activities

Learn the science behind elastic energy and fin designs.

During this club activity the children will build a sling powered rocket. In the process they will learn about elasticity and the science behind rockets. They fly a long distance and children can take the rocket home!

Experiment with Fins: Children will learn the importance of fins in rockets and how they can help to stabilise rockets.

Elastic Energy: Children will learn how elastic energy can power simple rockets and the science behind energy transfer.

Requirements

Once set up in the morning, we prefer to stay in the same classroom/s to run all of the sessions for the workshops. It allows us to run the sessions smoothly without any interruptions.
The classroom/hall/venue must have desks and chairs for all students. Normal classrooms are fine.
An outdoor or indoor open space, such as a hall or school playground, is required for the final 15 minutes to launch the rockets after they have been made.
Preferable: A computer/laptop with projector/interactive whiteboard or smart screen with sound enabled.

Please note that we typically only deliver our workshops/events for groups of children, as our event day prices are per instructor per day, starting from £375 for a half-day. As such, they are not suitable for individual children. However, you can ask your child's school to contact us to arrange a workshop day (anywhere in the UK) or an after-school STEM club (if based in Essex, Cardiff or Manchester), typically priced at £10 per session per child.
